About

Joel_C_ThomasMy name is Joel Thomas and I am a graduate student at University of Houston pursuing Master of Science in Electrical Engineering. This website highlights my professional development and showcases my education, experience and career goal.

Albert Einstein once said, “I have no special talents, I am only passionately curious. The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing ”. And so I was and grew up as a curious kid in school. My passion for engineering and all thing electrical and electronics started when I built my own light circuit with LEDs for my fish tank in 7th grade. I never stopped asking questions on how things worked and eventually went to do my undergraduate in Electrical Engineering at one of the top Engineering University, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology in Chennai, India.

One year before I could complete my Bachelors in Engineering, I was offered a job as Software Engineer at Infosys. In the last decade, Infosys was listed as No. 1 company to work for in India numerous times. Fortune magazine reported that its harder to get in Infosys than to get in Harvard [source]. It was a dream job for any engineering student in India! It was in fact a great opportunity to be able to professionally learn and hone my skills in programming and coding, in a world where everything runs on or monitored by computer programs. I had the pleasure of working with and coding for various Mainframes, interacting and collaborating on projects across the globe, learning to be a professional.

My curiousness and thirst for learning more never stopped and so did I move on to pursue my masters degree in Electrical Engineering at University of Houston. With my interests in chip design and manufacturing, I decided to do my thesis in nanofabrication field. I am currently working as a Research Assistant under Dr. Stanko Brankovic in Electrochemical Nanofabrication and Nanomaterials synthesis Labwhich partners with University of Houston Nanofabrication Facility. Here I am working on my thesis titled “Modeling of Copper Surface Morphology Evolution during Electropolishing” gaining proficiency in various fab equipments and in Matlab coding.

To conclude, I am a quick learner with never ending passion for new things, highly logical problem solver, target oriented team player, creative designer, an ethical citizen and someone who gets the job done.

Sincerely,

Joel Thomas
